I am trying to paint a wood work project , the result I am getting is uneven. and blotches. Is there a particular type of pain that one should use to cover WOOD. or a special material that makes the Paint SMOOTH ?.
Thanks .

  1. First, you need to sand the wood enough to let the paint adhere well. Just buff it a bit and fill in any holes with a putty, then sand them to make sure they are smooth. and then apply a good primer. Sherwin Williams carries some primers that are good but a little expensive. Also Ben Moore carries a line of primers that is good. Again, pricey. After you prime it, apply a coat of finish paint. If it still looks uneven, apply a second coat. It should even out. Rolling is a particularly good way to get a thick, even coat of paint.

  2. The job if surface preparation is usually over-looked. The surface of your wood needs to be as smooth as possible. Paint will not hide imperfections. Then you should prime it. The reason for primer is to save on paint, although primer is about as expensive nowadays, but more importantly, primer further prepares the wood for a better finish. It fills the tiny holes in the wood fiber. It will make the final paint look much better. Finally, use a good quality paint. Applying with a brush won’t produce the same effect as spraying, unless you use an oil-based paint.
Then make sure the paint is allowed to dry in a dust free environment.
    Good luck

  3. hi!coinlight65 here; the first thing is what type wood, your softer wood such as pine is some what harder to get a good finish on, WITHOUT! putting a sealcoat on it. but the main thing is to make sure the wood is sanded properly , I have done a lot of finishing mainly on furniture and pine gets a blotchy finish because of it’s porosity, but if sanded smooth with a fine sandpaper, such as a 150grit paper, and sanded as the grain runs, then cleaned good, (I blow my wood off good with an air hose) you should have no problem, getting a very fine finish, also use a very good paint ,and allow it to dry 24hrs. between coats, your best finish is sprayed on but, you can get a very good finish with a fine brush, a good finish takes time but is well worth the effort if you DO take your time. thank you hope it helps you.. good day!
