Hi, I’m looking for tips/plans/pictures of a easy wooden crayon holder/organizer for boy scouts. I’ve seen some really easy ones from scrap wood a long time ago and can’t locate the instructions anymore . No need for fancy animal shaped one.

Just some tips to help make the holes for the crayons and stuff.

Any info would help.
It’s not for the boy scouts it, a WOOD Project we would like the boys to create , decorate and either donate or sell, depending on the outcome.

Heres my situation: I just built a bar out of MDF board and it looks really good. I figured that I would just leave it the way it is because I know that if I paint it, I might mess it up. However, last night, I decided to put a nice cold beer on top of the MDF counter. Big mistake. Once I lifted the beer off the counter, I noticed that the water left behind started to create “bubbles.” Since I am completely new at carpentry, I was wondering how I should finish the bar. Since MDF is not “real” wood, how should I treat it?

I’ve sanded it a lot and It’s smooth and I’m putting some mineral oil on it right now. Any other suggestions for really smooth wood?

If I cut out the straight lines for the squares and go all the way to the edge, will that affect my sides when I go to edge it on the sides? If so how do I do this?

I plan on making random things whenever I feel like it and I’m looking for a general all purpose type of wood. I know there are specific woods for specific projects but there has to be something that’s okay for everything. I want to build chests, little bookcases, rice paper lamps, stools, dvd cases, or whatever else I can think of.
